Executive Director, Regions and Service Delivery, Victoria Legal Aid
Peter is passionate about improving access to justice and well-being through effective legal assistance services.
Peter is currently the Executive Director – Regions and Service Delivery, at Victoria Legal Aid (VLA), forming part of VLAs senior executive team.
Peter’s role provides organisational leadership on strategic and systemic issues impacting on regional access to justice and legal aid service delivery and has evolved to provide a single point of executive responsibility for VLAs regional services. It is also designed to enhance the participation and influence of staff and other regionally based service providers in legal aid policy settings, and to lead designated innovation and pilot projects across Victoria.
Since joining VLA in 2016, Peter’s work has focused on data-driven planning, innovative service design and meeting the justice needs of rural and regional communities.
Since joining VLA in 2016, Peter’s work has focused on data-driven planning, innovative service design and meeting the justice needs of rural and regional communities. He led the establishment of VLA’s first health justice partnership in Mildura, the development of the organisation’s data strategy and a multi-year program of work to ensure legal assistance services are positioned to meet emerging needs of outer-metropolitan and regional communities.
He also oversees Community Legal Centre funds administration, a service design function (focussing on diversity and inclusion) and supports VLA’s First Nations Services Directorate.
Peter has previously served on the Boards of the Victoria Law Foundation, the Public Interest Law Clearing House (Victoria), Tear Australia (now Tearfund Australia) and St Luke’s Anglicare (now Anglicare Victoria).
He was awarded Community Lawyer of the Year in 2008 by the Law Institute of Victoria and received a Clayton Utz Foundation Fellowship in 2012 to research Medical Legal Partnerships in the United States of America.
